<< Back Girls on the Move Sports Leaders Award in Dance Leadership (Level 1) (Skye) 31 March 2010 The Girls on the Move Leadership Programme is providing an opportunity for young women aged 16 – 24 to complete a Sports Leaders Award in Dance Leadership (Level 1). Applicants do not have to be skilled or experienced in dance or sport but must have an enthusiasm for physical activity and must be interested in becoming a leader within their own community, youth group or school. This 5 day residential course will be based at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Sleat, Isle of Skye. The course is designed to be practical and challenging, but most of all fun! The Leadership Awards use dance and sport to help participants develop vital skills such as planning, organisation and motivation, as well as improving communication skills and building confidence. Young women will also have the opportunity to take part in a variety of other sessions (such as confidence building and group work), as well as time to socialise and relax together in the evenings (Singstar anyone..?). As well as gaining an Award in Dance Leadership, participants will also have the opportunity to complete a Bronze Youth Achievement Award. Lots for the CV! Applications are particularly welcome from: • young women living in disadvantaged communities or those who have experienced homelessness or are living in care • young women with disabilities or mental health issues • young women from black and ethnic minority communities • young women who are mothers of young children Unfortunately young women with a degree or with a formal sports qualification are not eligible to apply. If applications are successful, a commitment fee of £20 is requested. Participants will be responsible for their own travel costs and providing their own clothing and trainers.
