Illuminated Letters and Mapping Memorials: Day event at Lochaber Illuminated Letters and Mapping Memorials: Day event at Lochaber. 11am - 4pm. Lochaber Hope, Fort William. Free including lunch.

Both sessions will be lead by Morag Smith of the Glasgow Women's Library.

Illuminated letters - write to a real woman who inspires you

Use beautiful gems, embellishments and other craft materials to create an illuminated letter. The letter can be as long or as short as you like. We can help you write it and you don't need any artistic or craft experience.

Glasgow Women's Library's illuminated letters project is asking women from all over the world to celebrate the life of a real woman from the past who inspires them. We are inviting women and girls locally, nationally and internationally to create their own illuminated letters to lost heroines: women who are no longer alive but whose histories and achievements deserve to be remembered. You can write to someone from our list of 100 inspirational women, you can write to a local Renfrewshire woman or you can write to another woman who has been important and inspirational in your life. All the letters from this project will be exhibited at Glasgow Women's Library on International Women's Day in March 2014.

Mapping Memorials

Training on how to add to the website resource which maps memorials honouring women in Scotland.

"About the project

All over Scotland, in towns, villages and in the countryside, there are many types of memorials, large and small, commemorating the lives and achievements of women. Some names are well known, others have been forgotten. All the women have contributed in some way to the life of the country we know today.

The Women of Scotland website was set up to record this information and make it available to all, and we need your help to find these memorials.

Perhaps you know of a memorial to a woman in your area that hasn't been marked on our map? Or maybe you know the story behind a name? We need you to find the monuments, landmarks, street names and buildings that mark the lives and achievements of women (whether famous, humble or notorious) who helped to shape Scotland."
