The application to the National Forest Land Scheme, made on behalf of the community by Ross of Mull and Iona Development Group, has been approved by Forestry Commission Scotland. We now have 18 months for business planning and to secure funding before the transfer of land.

Envisaged community benefits include a productive forest which is actively managed and will produce a variety of employment opportunities, woodland crofts to give local people more access to land and wider access for locals and visitors enabling them to enjoy the areas of the forest which are rich in archaeological remains, natural history and landscape heritage.

This is an ambitious project for the communities and the next 18 months will be crucial, with much hard work and due diligence involved.  Once we have clarified the appropriate corporate structure for the community forest we will then be in a position to advertise for and appoint directors.
