Shakti Women's Aid Road Show report

The Forces marriage dress is festooned with messages from women. Last month the Highlands welcomed the Shakti Road Show to Inverness. The focus falling on Hour Base Violence. Speakers from Scottish Women's Aid, Lindsay Solicitors, Southhall Black Sisters and DARF made for a very interesting, informative and enlightening day. Forced marriage is more widely known in England but it is also an issue in Scotland. The Scotland Forced Marriage Act came into force in November 2011. The road show helped the delegates distinguish between honour based crimes and routine domestic violence cases. Cultural sensitivity was discussed as dealing with this issue may be misconstrued as racist. An over view of the services and resources of Shakti Women's Aid were also a feature of the day. The Spirit Level Documentary

Tax the bankers, cut the pay of the people at the top and pay more to the nurses, the cleaners, the MacDonald’s worker, the supermarket check-out staff, (well, let’s be frank – 90% of us) and the world will be a happier place, the economy will be more successful and we will live longer.
